I had an interesting day yesterday.
At work, the day's broken up into thirds. When I come in the morning, I'm supposed to have two dogs, work on them three hours, than one more when I'm done with those, and than two more for the last three hours. I work eight and a half hours, so there is a bit of overlap.
Yesterday, one of my first dogs had fleas, so she had to be washed, dried,n caged, and groomed separately, all her hair had to be cleaned up right away, and everything sprayed down with a flea spray that smells strongly of mouldy cheese. So a lot more work. I ended up asking for extra time for her, because I still had my other dog as well...
Then the last set was a St. Bernard. Do you have any idea how big a St. actually is?
I spent about two hours just washing and drying him already.
He didn't want to go on the grooming table, and to tell you the truth, I don't know how that would have worked... So he ended up with his front paws on the table while I worked on him.
I decided to do his claws first, because I had no idea how long it would take. That was a good choice, because it took about twenty minutes, and he hadn't started drooling yet... He was so strong that if he flinched, I ended up holding air instead of paw, so I ended up sitting in front of him and holding his paws on my lap. It made my muscles ache. The left arm still does...
Than we have this 'zoom groom' brush we use on shedding dogs. Took about three times as long as any other dog I've done so far. I really think that dog probably weighed half again how much I do.
The really gross part was the drooling. Never ever would I let a dog that drooled into my house, and when the man that owned him came to collect the dog, he told us he had two!
Some people are crazy.
